    Effects on the Nervous System

    • Among the reported side effects are drowsiness, fatigue, confusion, impaired cognition, anxiety, asthenia, amnesia, headache, dizziness and ataxia.

    Withdrawal Effects

    • Patients who regularly take lorazepam and stop suddenly may experience withdrawal symptoms, which include worsening of side effects in addition to nausea, vomiting, increased sweating and tremor.

    Warnings

    • Lorazepam may affect a person's ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Because of this, patients are advised to refrain from these activities until they know how they react to the medication.

    Dosing

    • Lorazepam tablets are available from 0.5 mg to 4 mg. Depending on the patient's condition, the doses may be repeated one to three times a day or every four to six hours as needed.

    Risks for Dependancy

    • Lorazepam, when taken for extended periods of time, can cause dependency. Use only under the direction of a trained physician or health care provider.
