How to Make a Sand Texture
- 1). Spread drop cloths over or on items that should not be covered in paint. When painting the floor, tape plastic drop cloths to the baseboards or walls to prevent from getting paint on them.
- 2). Mix 10 parts paint to one part sand in a bucket and mix well with a paint stirrer. For example, when using 1 gallon of paint, add approximately 1.5 cups of sand.
- 3). Pour enough paint to work with into a paint tray and apply with a roller. The sand will settle to the bottom of the tray and the bucket quickly so stir well before using the roller in the tray or pouring more paint from the bucket.
- 4). Roll the wall, floor or any other project with the sand-painted roller. Use even strokes to ensure even paint and sand on the surface. If the sand appears heavily in some areas and light in others, stir the paint mixture again to ensure the sand is evenly distributed throughout the paint. Reapply the paint mixture again until you reach the desired look.
