How to Get a Pottery Barn Look for Less
- 1
Go through the Pottery Barn catalog and select a room that you love and would like to duplicate. - 2
Get the paint. Some of the pages in the catalog will tell you the name of the Benjamin Moore paint color used in the photo. If not, bring the catalog to the paint store and ask a professional to best help you match the color. - 3
Shop around. If the room you love has a sectional sofa, find one in a similar style and fabric. Same goes for window treatments and pillows. You can duplicate a look so easily by going to such places as Bed Bath and Beyond, JC Penney, or even Target. - 4
Consider using what you have. Before buying wood furniture (tables, bookshelves), see what you have around your house that can give you the same look. Keep an open mind - it's amazing how easy it is to transform an old piece of furniture with some sandpaper and paint. - 5
Get crafty. When I was decorating my son's room a few years ago I loved the sports canvases that Pottery Barn was selling (2/$99). The price was a bit high for me so I bought canvases from the craft store and made my own for about $25. - 6
Be smart about accessories. Marshals and TJ Maxx are both a home decorator's haven for accessories. Bring your Pottery Barn Catalog with you and try to find similar pieces. This wall of frames has a Pottery Barn look and feel but it was so inexpensive to produce using Ikea products (see Resources, below). - 7
Buy Pottery Barn products at great prices. Shop during sales, go to the Pottery Barn outlet for serious markdowns, and check out eBay for gently used Pottery Barn products at a fraction of the retail cost.
