Melt and pour soap has dramatically changed the soap-making process at home.
It has totally eliminated any excuse for not making homemade soaps.
As a matter of fact it has blossomed into one of my favorite crafts.
I love this stuff.
It's so quick and easy.
And that leads to my being able to create the most lovely last minute homemade soaps with little mess, little fuss and lots of ideas for last minute gift items.
Recently I lost one of my favorite soap molds while I was making up a bath basket for Valentine's Day.
Of course all the stores were closed by this time and I'm much too impatient to wait another day! Being, well, a seasoned crafter and everyday pack rat, I found a suitable replacement and made a really cute homemade soap with the Melt and Pour soap.

Heart Afloat soap You'll need:
Add a couple drops of red dye (be sure it's soap dye) until you get the shade you desire, stirring well.
Make a rectangle (with sides and a bottom with the aluminum foil) and pour the melted red soap in it.
Allow to cool completely.
Once it has cooled, cut out a heart with the cookie cutter.
Clean out any leftover soap in the microwave proof bowl and leftover soap in the foil.
(Don't discard the leftover red soap we can re use it in my next project.
) Cup a few cubes of melt and pour soap and melt it completely, as before, in the microwave.
Add a single drop of yellow dye, stirring well (don't stir too quickly, it'll cause air bubbles to form in your soap).
You can omit the dye in this step if you desire.
Pour into the clean cottage cheese container.
Allow to cool and solidify slightly.
Carefully push the soap heart into the center of the soap in the container, pushing it into position with your craft stick or skewer.
Allow to cool completely.
Remove from container.
Tip: if the soap is a little stubborn about coming loose, dip the outside of the container in hot water, being careful not to get the soap wet.
It's really awesome using these simple things that you have around the kitchen and it really leaves this project wide open to adapt any way you can imagine the outcome.

- paring knife
- 2 craft sticks or bamboo skewers
- microwave
