How to Remove Top of Kenmore Elite Calypso
- 1). Unplug the Calypso power cord from the wall outlet. Pull the washer forward two feet so you have access to the back of the unit.
- 2). Slip a putty knife blade under the right front corner of the control console. Push the spring clip under the console with the putty knife blade until it releases from the top of the washer. Repeat for the left front corner of the control console.
- 3). Lift the control console up slightly, and pull it forward to release the rear mounting tabs. Once the control console is free of the top panel, allow it to sit on the top of the washer.
- 4). Pry the Calypso emblem off the front of the washer with a utility knife to access the front securing screw. Remove the front securing screw with a T40 Torx wrench.
- 5). Go to the rear of the washer and remove the hex head screws securing the top hinges to the rear of the unit with a socket wrench. Three hinges serve as service hinges to raise the top. Lift the hinges and angle them out of the slots on the rear of the top panel. Set the hinges in a safe place for reassembly.
- 6). Push the top panel toward the front of the washer. This action disengages the front retaining clips. Lift the control console, and push the front panel forward enough that there is room to place the control console on the back of the washtub. Placing the console on the washtub eliminates the need to disconnect all the controls.
- 7). Go to the front of the washer and lift the front of the top panel. Disconnect the door switch connector under the right rear of the top panel with your fingers. Move the top panel off the Calypso washer.
