How to Make Fast Cuts on Water Skis

    • 1). Keep the pressure of the rope on your back arm, or the arm farthest from the boat. Begin to swing your ski out as you approach the spot for your desired turn. To make the fastest turn possible, you should lean in, towards the wake with your body while allowing your lower body to swing through the turn, rotating around your upper body, which will act like a pivot point.

    • 2). Release your back hand from the handle as you complete the arc of your turn. This should be part of a counter-rotational movement, where you lead in to the turn with your inside hip, and square your hips and shoulders so that you are facing down the water, parallel to the wake. The elbow of your released hand should swing back and compliment this rotation.

    • 3). Grasp the handle again with your second hand as you come out of the turn. Keep your upper body still, and wait for tension to build in the rope. The pull should come on what is now your back hand, or the hand farthest from the boat.

    • 4). Let the boat pull you out of your turn and set yourself up for your next turn. Speeding through one turn may get you through that turn fast, but throw off your set up for the next turn.

    • 5). Progress to higher boat speeds and shorter ropes to increase the speed at which you turn, as your skill and ability on water skis improves.
