The continuing strength of the Euro against Sterling is still having an effect on UK visitors when it comes to choosing a destination for the 2010 holidays. Spain, Portugal and Greece had all been traditional strongholds for British tourists but during 2009, Sterling did not make the anticipated gains on the Euro so these places are not offering as good value as they did a couple of years ago for British holiday makes.

Instead, they are looking to destinations outside the Euro Zone in the hope of making their money go further and it is places like Egypt and especially Turkey that are taking advantage of the situation.

Turkey is primarily a beach destination offering the visitor over 5,000 miles of coast line with more than 300 blue flag beaches. Boat trips can take tourists to one of the many secluded beaches where crystal blue waters lap against white sandy beaches with the backdrop of lush, green forests.

On Turkey's Aegean coast, Marmaris is already a popular destination for British visitors. The sea front is lined with restaurants and cafes in this lively resort. Nearby Icmeler offers the best beach in the area. Bodrum is one of Turkey's sophisticated resorts with a mix of nightlife, many wonderful beaches, fishing villages blended with a mix of history. The Mediterranean Coast has the 8 mile long Patara Beach is known as the widest beach of the Northern Mediterranean and in 2005, it was voted as one of the top beaches in the world by Times Online.

The Turkish Riviera centres on Antalya. The city is set around the harbour and it is the main resort on Turkey's southern coast. The long stretches of beaches around Antalya are a great place to relax and there plenty of opportunities for water sports including windsurfing and waterskiing. Further along the coast, visitors can explore various historic sites and caves that are only reachable by boat.

However, there is more to Turkey [http://www.explorerdirect.explorertravel.co.uk/Destinations/Turkey/Turkey_Guide.htm] than just beaches. The city of Istanbul marks the point where Europe meets Asia and it is also the European Capital of Culture for 2010. As a former capital of the Eastern Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, Istanbul is a place rich in history with the highlights including the Blue Mosque and a trip by boat along the Bosphorus.

Turkey [http://www.explorerdirect.explorertravel.co.uk/Destinations/Turkey/Turkey_Guide.htm] has much to offer the visitor and while the Euro remains strong against Sterling, UK visitors will continue to flock to Turkey [http://www.explorerdirect.explorertravel.co.uk/Destinations/Turkey/Turkey_Guide.htm] in search of more value for their money.
