- You need more than just a bottle of Lexol and a rag to do the job right. First, you should go with a leather cleaner and a leather conditioner for best results. The cleaner removes dirt and debris while the conditioner keeps the leather supple. You should also prepare a bucket of clear, warm water, and have two soft cloths and two terrycloth towels.
- Cleaning the leather with Lexol consists of three steps: applying the cleaner, rinsing the cleaner and then drying the leather. Apply the cleaner by spraying a small dab directly onto the leather and then rubbing gently with a damp cloth. Dry with a clean towel. Make sure to work on one small section at a time, such as the seat back followed by the seat cushion, so you don't end up with residue.
Pay extra attention to creases and seams, making sure to clean the threads so they do not deteriorate as rapidly as they otherwise would. - Follow the cleaning with the conditioning to keep the leather moisturized. Dampen one of the soft cloths, wring dry and dabble a bit of conditioner on it. Rub a light coat of the conditioner over the leather. Wait about half an hour then wipe down any excess with a clean towel. Allow the conditioner to set at least one hour and up to three, depending on how long it is taking to completely set in current weather conditions, such as heat and humidity.
