• Located off Interstate 35 in nearby Merriam, this Quality Inn is 4.6 miles southwest of Mission Hills. The hotel offers 88 simply furnished guest rooms and standard amenities, including an outdoor pool and free wireless Internet access. A complimentary continental breakfast is served daily, and up to two pets under 25 pounds each are permitted in specially appointed first- and second-floor rooms for $10 per pet per day. The Quality Inn is just seven miles from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which houses a collection of more than 33,500 pieces of art. Touted as Kansas City's "affordable boutique hotel," Q provides an extensive list of complimentary amenities and services, including shuttle service to area attractions, yoga classes, day passes to the nearby Golds Gym, a daily breakfast with omelet bar and nightly beverages during the manager's reception. Each of Q's recently renovated guest rooms is furnished with Turkish cotton linens and high-definition, flat-screen televisions. Some may include a balcony or two-person jetted bathtub. Special rooms are reserved for guests traveling with a pet and require an additional $50 fee upon booking. A variety of attractions are within a mile of the hotel, including the National World War I Museum and the Uptown Theater, which hosts concerts and shows throughout the year.

• Homestead Studio Suites is also 3.6 miles northeast of Mission Hills and features extended-stay suites with fully equipped kitchens and pet-friendly rooms for a daily $25 fee. A fitness room is available on-site, as are laundry facilities. A handful of chain and independently owned dining establishments are within walking distance of the hotel. • The award-winning Hilton President Kansas City Hotel, located 7.6 miles northeast of Mission Hills, is situated in Kansas City's new Power and Light Entertainment District. Each guest room includes luxury linens, while suites feature additional amenities like bathrobes and jetted bathtubs. Pets up to 75 pounds are permitted for a $75-a-day fee. The Hilton houses two dining rooms and a lounge: the Walnut and Drum rooms and Drum Room Lounge.
