While Boston's Fourth of July Spectacular is widely considered one of the best Independence Day celebrations in the country, it isn't the only attraction that celebrates America's birthday. Boston's Harborfest is a six-day celebration that runs from June 28-July 4, boasting hundreds of family-friendly events that celebrate the city's colonial heritage. The celebration is highlighted by six main events: the Opening Ceremonies, Children's Day, Party on the Plaza, and the popular Chowderfest.

  • Opening Ceremonies
    June 28, 2012, Noon-12:30, Free
    The 30th anniversary of Harborfest gets underway with a kickoff party at the West End of Fanueil Hall Marketplace.
  • Children's Day
    June 29, 2012, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Free
    A slew of activities geared to kids will be at City Hall Plaza including face-painting, professional jugglers, dancing, and musical entertainment.
  • Arrival of the Tall Ships
    June 30-July 4 2012
    The Tall Ships make their grand return to Boston, just in time for the Fourth of July.
  • Party on the Plaza
    June 30, 2012, 6-9 p.m., Free
    The funk era comes alive once again at City Hall Plaza, where Disco Inferno will get your dance on.
  • Kids Re-Enact the Boston Massacre
    July 2, 2012, 10-10:30 a.m. a.m.
    One of American history's most pivotal moments will be the focus outside the Old State House..
  • Chowderfest
    July 1, 2012, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Adults, $13, children 12 and under, $9

    Some of New England's top restaurants will be on hand with clam chowder recipes vying to be named Best in Show. Clancy's of Dennisport won last year's competition.
