Working Out With a Fitness Partner

Let's face it, once the initial rush of having a new goal at the gym fades away, keeping up your momentum can be difficult.
You may find yourself finding excuses as to why you just can't make it to the gym today and you'll just work harder tomorrow.
This is especially the case with an early morning workout routine, which can quickly turn into a morning routine of sleeping in and making plans to make up for it in some nebulous future.
When you have a fitness partner, you have no choice but to drag yourself out of bed or away from your work or whatever and go keep your appointment with him or her.
No matter how important whatever else you were doing seemed at the time, odds are that once you are actually in the gym the time will fly by and you'll be glad you went.
Finding yourself a fitness partner can be just the thing you (and they) need to keep yourself motivated and working hard.
Studies have shown that people who have a workout buddy are more responsible with their workouts and make more progress as you have someone else right there you can compare and compete your progress with.
When you can see someone else right next to you doing the same thing you are doing, your competitive nature will kick in and you will want to push yourself just that little bit harder, either to keep up or to surpass your partner.
It also makes for good moral support, knowing that when you are doing something hard or painful, you are not alone in it.
Once you have been working out with a particular partner long enough, odds are you will get to know each other well enough that you will be able to tell when the other is slacking off and provide that extra push that makes your time at the gym worth while.
There are some workout exercises that you can only do with the help of a partner or a trainer, for example partner stretches or wheelbarrow pushups, in which while one person does a pushup, the other person has to hold the ankles of the first person and squat down toward the floor.
This gives both people a good workout and could not be done alone.
Working out with a friend can also help you to enjoy a social life without it necessarily having to revolve around food and drink.
Working out with one or several friends lets you hang out and have fun with them without the usual trappings of a social get together-beer and burgers for example.
If you don't already have someone in mind to ask, there are many ways to find yourself a fitness buddy.
A great way to get fit and to expand your social or career network is to ask around the office or post a sign.
There is nothing like having a common and completely un-work related goal to help you get to know your co-workers better.
Another great option is to simply post an ad at your local gym and see if someone already there wants to share a little moral support.
There are lots of options, and they can all help you to have a more efficient, productive and fun workout.
