An Introduction to the Town of Minehead

Minehead is not only a coastal location but also a civil parish located in Somerset county England.
It's located close to Devon and the Exmoor National Park.
It is the largest location in that area of West Somerset.
The location is full of history due to the port, and is still the pier itself dates back to 1616.
Trade in this location was once based on sheep, wool, cattle, fish, butter and cool.
Some trade is still done in these items but not near as many as back in history.
Once the Victorian times came around the tourist would head to this area to enjoy the water and beauty of the location.
Though back in 1791 a huge fire happened and much of the town had to be rebuilt.
North Hill overlooks the town, and you can enjoy the Exmoor National Park easily from this location.
While the cliff is a great area where many fossils have been found in the past.
A lot of the beach would be washed away during a storm that hit the area back in 1990.
Since then a lot of money has been used and is helping to stop the erosion and possibly flooding in the future.
A new sea wall was built that will help protect the area, plus over 320, 000 of sand that was imported and helped to rebuild the beach.
The beach is situated between four rock groynes and actually was built up higher to help protect it further.
Many landmarks are located in this spot and should be seen.
One is a wonderful sculpture that marks where the South West Coast Path begins.
A wonderful location for holidays for many people, though it has seen less in recent years.
But it is still a great stop for many people who enjoy beaches and doing things in the water.
Plus there is tons of history around this part of the world.
