Thomas the Train has been a popular toy since the early 1940s.
His blue and red engine are recognizable by parents and children alike, and never fails to bring a smile to faces as they stroll down the toy aisle, searching for the latest addition to the Bachmann train line.
Aside from being a die cast toy, the Thomas characters are represented in other venues as well.
From books to DVD's to downloadable games, Thomas and friends can be found everywhere.
In addition to being a toy that builds and encourages imaginative play, the Thomas toys also encourage working together and making good choices.
Several lessons that are repeated throughout the Thomas TV show and DVD's include things like: Little Engines Can Do Big Things, Always Tell the Truth, and Work First, Play Later.
Positive role models that encourage good decision making skills are a refreshing change from many of the popular toys offered today.
By piquing children's interest in trains, the Bachmann Thomas the Train characters are also encouraging children to take part in a more environmentally friendly world.
Today's trains are some of the world's cleanest sources of transportation.
A train even half full of passengers leaves the carbon footprint equivalent of each passenger driving a small hybrid car.
And if the train carries a full load, the carbon footprint is almost zero and certainly much lower than passengers on a plane or traveling alone by personal vehicle.
In addition to the teaching possibilities and imaginative play that the Bachmann Thomas line offers, it is also just plain old fun.
At some point in time, almost all of us have been fascinated by trains: their power, speed, and size.
It doesn't take long after a child opens their first train set for the whole family to be pulled back into the magical spell of the locomotive.
This type of toy provides an opportunity for parents and children to interact in a way that benefits both parties.
Children provide the imagination while parents have an opening to work in play time, history, and story telling as well.
Being able to tell children about a time when the country wasn't overrun by personal vehicles but spanned by train tracks opens a whole new realm of possibilities for playtime enjoyment.
Bachmann Trains provides for this by including antique trains, fire engines, passenger trains and many more in their Thomas and Friends.
