With the state of today's economy, and mass company layoffs, it's no wonder people are looking for a way to make a second income.
For shift workers who are looking to fill in some time on their days off, freelancing can be a dream come true! If you work 12-hour shifts, chances are you work only 13 - 14 days a month; that gives you plenty of time to secure a second income without sacrificing family time.
Here are some benefits to working as a freelancer if you work shifts: a.
Flexible work schedule - you choose the hours and the days that you work, as long as you meet your deadlines.
You can freelance on your days off.
You will not have to ask permission to take a break or leave early.
There is a tremendous amount of liberation working on your own terms and conditions.
b.
No Commuting - unlike your shift job, you will not have to drive to work.
You can grab your coffee and shuffle to your home office.
You can even work in your pajamas if you want to.
c.
Do What You Love - whatever you have a passion for, you can find freelance work for.
There really are no limits here.
Program in JAVA for a website, research a book topic for an author, translate a document, transcribe a document, write a blog post for an e-commerce site; make a list of things you love to do and search the internet for companies or individuals who are hiring for those types of tasks.
d.
Extra Income - make as much or as little as you like.
Take on as many tasks as you think you can handle.
As you get more experienced you can take on more jobs.
Some jobs pay by the hour, and some pay a fixed price upon completion.
You will need to make sure you have a fully equipped home office: computer, phone, internet, printer, basic office software and a messaging system like Yahoo or MSN.
Update your resume and be ready to send it with a cover letter along with work samples.
All you need in order to work as a freelancer is imagination, determination and fortitude.
Start off slow, take on only one job at a time to see how it fits within your current schedule.
You may find freelancing so enjoyable you make it your primary income!
