Braves and More Get Eye Surgery
Dan Uggla from the Atlanta Braves will be taking time off for the next few weeks, as he has recently received LASIK eye surgery for his vision problems. The deterioration in his eye began long ago, but only recently has it become bad enough to require the pitcher to temporarily step back for help. Doing so, he will join a number of other famous faces which appeared in Utah news articles this week, including a pair of adorable kittens.
The kittens were both strays found in Greene County Ohio, and while not related, possessed the same genetic defect: Columba. This is a defect in which the animals are born without upper eyelids. Unattended, these two would have died because of their ailment, but thanks to the help of two dedicated veterinarians they will live to see the future.
Two veterinarians performed a complex eye surgery which fixed the kitten's eyes, allowing them to live and see on, though they probably won't get anywhere near someplace as hot and dry as Utah, due to the need to keep their eyes carefully protected.
The third eye story seen this week in Utah papers is possibly the most unique, and that's saying quite a bit when the other two involve baseball and kittens. Emil Chynn is a professional eye surgeon who enjoys his job, makes a considerable amount of money and performs complex surgery every day. Oh, and he's absolutely desperate to find his true love.
In a mass email sent by the man himself, Emil explained that he was willing to reward anyone who found his true love with certain medical gifts and/or hard cash. The system works as a kind of reward ladder, in that the longer Emil dates the woman, the bigger the reward for the potential matchmaker.
The Fifth date and final reward is a choice between either $500 cash, or 1 eye free LASIK eye surgery. While some might be suspicious of the strange charity, others see it as just a way for Emil to get his name out there. Additional information in the email indicated some of the stats which he was looking for including extremely skinny, white women, who don't smoke or do drugs, has graduated from college, and wants children.
Now sitting in the media spotlight of Utah and the world, Emil has received best wishes from various sources and has been featured in articles from CNN and other major news companies.
