- This test is used to identify what a nursing candidate is strongest and weakest at. The test is a series of general knowledge questions from math to science to reading. By taking the test, the candidate is showing how well she can perform in a certain medical field because she is presenting the amount of knowledge she has about the specific subject area.
- The HESI exam is used to show a student's problem-solving ability. Although the test doesn't determine whether the student will be licensed, it is relatively common for a school to require a student to pass the test to graduate. Like the NET, it will test knowledge of a variety of areas, but unlike the NET, it is broken into three tests: an entrance, mid-curricular and exit exam.
- Both of the tests are computerized and test general knowledge. A student will have to be well-rounded in her field and will need to be able to do math pretty quickly.
- The HESI exam requires that a student get at least an 80 percent on the test. If he falls lower than that, he will have to retake it or fail. With the NET test, every answer is worth one point, and if an answer is left blank or is wrong, it is worth nothing, similar to the SAT exam. The NET test is a one-time test, whereas the HESI is split into the three sections. The NET test features a lot more math questions than the HESI exams, as the HESI is trying to measure more than just general ability.
