How to Make a Floating Headboard
- 1). Measure the width of the bed with a tape measure when the bed is made to determine the width of curtain panel or panels and length of curtain rod. Measuring a made bed provides a more accurate measurement of the true width of the headboard, which should extend beyond the bedclothes to be in proportion with the entire bed.
- 2). Select curtain panels, curtain rod and picture frame to complement the room's decor. The frame will be placed on the wall over the center of the bed so it should be in proportion to the wall space and the bed.
- 3). Mark the the ceiling with a pencil where the hardware for the curtain rod will be secured. Attach the hardware as close as possible to the wall that the head of the bed rests against. Secure the curtain rod hardware in place.
- 4). Thread the curtain onto the rod, and insert the rod onto the curtain rod hardware. Arrange the curtain so its folds hang evenly to the floor and behind the head of the bed.
- 5). Cut two equal lengths of picture wire with the wire cutters. These wires will suspend the picture frame from the curtain rod; cut wires to length you prefer. Thread one end of a wire through the hook or eye bolt at the back of the frame and wind the other end around the curtain rod. Repeat with second length of picture wire. Adjust wires as needed for frame to hang evenly.
