How to Install the Fuel Filter on a 1986 Camaro
- 1). Drive the Camaro's rear wheels onto the ramps. Place the car in park and apply the parking brake before getting out. Put the wheel chocks in front of the front wheels.
- 2). Slide the drain pan under the driver's side of the Camaro and climb under with the box wrenches and new fuel filter.
- 3). Follow the fuel line forward from the gas tank to locate the fuel filter. The filter is located just forward of the rear wheels.
- 4). Grab the fuel line nut and the filter nut on the front of the filter with the box wrenches. Hold fuel filter nut steady with one wrench while you loosen the fuel line nut with the other. Repeat this on the rear filter nut and fuel line nut. Pull the fuel lines away from the filter by hand.
- 5). Remove the filter by hand and place it in the drain pan. Position the new filter in its place. Make sure the O-rings stay inside the fuel filter inlet and outlet.
- 6). Tighten the fuel line nuts to the filter in reverse of removal. Climb out and move the tools, drain pan and wheel chocks away from the Camaro.
- 7). Turn the ignition key to the run position. Wait 10 seconds and then turn the key off, then back to the run position again. Wait 10 more seconds and then start the Camaro. Look underneath for any fuel leaks before driving the Camaro off the ramps.
