How to Make a Wedding Centerpiece With a Black Vase
- 1). Float a wet floral foam brick on the surface of a bowl of water, allowing the brick to fully absorb the water. Do not force the foam under the water because it will naturally absorb on its own. The foam is ready to use when it sinks to water level within one to two minutes.
- 2). Cut the wet floral foam to size by placing it on top of the black vase and trimming the edges with a knife so the foam will fit tightly inside the vase. Leave about 1 inch of the foam visible over the height of the vase, because the raised height will make the flowers sit more naturally in the vase.
- 3). Trim the stems of the two dozen roses at an angle, using the scissors, leaving stems about 1 inch in length. Remove any remaining leaves from the stem before you insert them into the foam. This will allow for more flowers to fit into the arrangement. Check the rose petals for any brown or unattractive edges, and trim those edges with the scissors if necessary.
- 4). Insert the stem of one rose into the top center of the foam, pushing the stem all the way into it. Then in random spots, slide the remaining roses into the foam one at a time, completely filling in the sides and the top. Insert the roses along the sides at an angle for a fuller look.
- 5). Place the finished arrangement in the center of the reception table on top of the tablecloth. Set five votive candles inside the holders and set them around the black vase centerpiece. After the candles are lit, the light reflecting on the black vase will add a romantic touch to the setting.
