Illinois Nuclear Engineering Scholarships
- The American Nuclear Society is a national organization that provides scholarship support to nuclear engineering students. First-year nuclear engineering students in Illinois may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 of support through ANS Incoming Freshman Scholarships. The American Nuclear Society also awards a variety of endowed scholarships each year to current undergraduates, as well as graduate students. To be eligible, applicants must be United States citizens and members of the ANS. The annual application deadline for Incoming Freshman Scholarships is April 1; all other scholarships must be applied for by February 1.
- The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers administers scholarship assistance to nuclear engineering students each year through the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society Graduate Scholarship Award. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $500, and also entitles the recipient to a complimentary one-year membership to the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society. Any student studying nuclear engineering at the graduate level is eligible. Up to four scholarships are awarded annually. The annual deadline for application is January 31.
- The Society of Women Engineers has two sections in the state of Illinois that offer scholarships specifically to female engineering students within the state. The SWE Chicago Regional Section Scholarship is available to a student in the Chicago area who holds a GPA of at least 3.0 and who is either a transfer, reentry or first-year student. The SWE Central Illinois Section Scholarship is available to first-year and current students in central Illinois and awarded in the amount of $250.
- Several scholarship programs are available specifically to students studying nuclear engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Bruce W. Spencer Endowment Fund is awarded in the amount of $500 to a deserving nuclear engineering student. The Catherine Pritchard Undergraduate Scholarship is available to students in the department entering their senior year. The Barclay G. Jones Endowment Fund is available to both undergraduate and graduate students within the department. Other available scholarships include the Roy A. Axford Undergraduate Scholarship and the George H. Miley LENR Undergraduate Scholarship.
