How to Kill Sticker Bushes

    • 1). Cut down the main bush as close to the ground as you can. This will not kill the bush; it will, however, let you work at destroying the roots without getting scratched and stuck by stickers. Put on thick landscaping gloves, then cut the bush down at the base using a hand saw. Discard the bush.

    • 2). Cut the visible roots near the ground’s surface using clippers or a sharp knife.

    • 3). Dig up as much of the “stump” and roots as you can using a sharp spade shovel. Hack at the roots, severing them with the spade when possible.

    • 4). Till the ground above the bush’s roots using an electric or gas tiller, pressing the tiller as far into the ground as you can. Once the surface is broken, shovel some dirt from the area using a spade so the tiller can reach the roots that are farther down. Till the area again.

    • 5). Saturate the ground where the roots are with boiling water. Repeat this process daily, clipping any new shoots or roots that appear. Repeat until no new shoots appear.
