    "Sniper Elite"

    • Namco released "Sniper Elite" in late 2005 amid a crowded market of World War II shooters. "Sniper Elite" focuses entirely on the sniper's experience in war, however, according to a Gamespot review. Players experience the game through the eyes of an American sniper disguised as a German soldier near the end of the war as Russia and Germany fight for control of Berlin. The Gamespot review praised the game's realistic shooting and challenge level, but nevertheless criticized the game for being overly tedious and trying the patience of casual gamers.

    "Sniper: Ghost Warrior"

    • "Sniper: Ghost Warrior" was released to mediocre reviews in 2010. The game features an American sniper dispatched to South America to aid the continent against evil forces bent on overtaking its defenses. This modern take on the shooter genre separates itself from the pack by focusing solely on the sniper, but a Gamespot review reports that the game gets more wrong than it gets right. Although the review praises the sniping mechanics and attractive visuals, the game's overwhelming difficulty and inconsistent artificial intelligence prove to be faults that make the game stumble overall.

    "Medal of Honor"

    • The Medal of Honor series received a reboot in 2010 and moved the action from World War II to a more current conflict in Afghanistan. Although the game's focal point is not sniping, the game's campaign offers several chances for players to take advantage of sniper rifles. The multiplayer feature in "Medal of Honor," however, allows players to specifically sculpt a sniper character for use in head-to-head online play. Multiplayer gamers can pick a sniper class to play with, and their abilities can be upgraded through earned experience points.

    "Call of Duty: Black Ops"

    • "Call of Duty: Black Ops," much like "Medal of Honor," provides ample opportunity for sniping during the game, but the multiplayer option allows gamers enamored with sniper gameplay to really concentrate their talents into this one style of play. According to an IGN review, leveling up in multiplayer affords players "CoD Points," which can be used to refine their play style and emphasize perks related to assault or sniper rifles.
