Football Cards for a Nickel

While this trip back to the future doesn?t star Michael J. Fox, it does bring back memories of a time when a trip to the movie theater set you back a nickel. Oh, and thanks to Topps, there?s no need to hop in that crazy DeLorean with McFly to hit the local candy store for a pack of football cards.
In honor of the NFL?s ?Kick-off Weekend (September 10th-11th)?, your local hobby shop should be stacked with packs of football cards that will cost you ? five cents!

The packs will contain five cards (of a 22 card set) patterned after the 1956 Topps design.

And, after being in this hobby for 25 years, there isn?t much out there that you can buy today for a nickel. Perhaps you can score a Ken O?Brien rookie card or a pack of those lovely 1988 Pro Set cards for a nickel?but certainly nothing more worthwhile than that.

But, On September 11th and 12th, as mentioned above, you can walk (not run) into your local hobby shop and purchase a pack of football cards for the same price as our hobby forefathers did in 1956. For those of you who are counting, that?s nine presidents ago.

If you are a ?baby boomer,? go relive your youth. If you are a ?generation x?er, like myself, go relive a time that to this point you had only heard about from your dad or your uncle or that bitter old man that works at the card shop down the street who threw away his cards in 1972.

As an added bonus, Topps will be offering the remainder of the 50TH Anniversary 22-card set every week thereafter, just in case your cardboard thirst wasn?t quenched.

To find a participating store nearest you, dial 1-888-GO-TOPPS or log onto www.topps.com and use the Home Team Advantage (HTA) store locator.
