Starting a business working from home is not that difficult.
You need to decide what business you want to go into and what you want out of it.
Are you looking to make some extra cash by running it part time or looking to build a serious company over the next 7 - 10 years? It's a big decision and you really need to think about that.
Going into business just to make money is not reason enough.
You need to have a personal plan first.
If your answer is just to make money then you need to come up with a figure - how much money and why that much? What's the reason for you wanting to make $1,000,000 for example.
Have you thought about the impact success could have on your life, your family and friends.
Because going into business will change you.
No doubt about it.
You'll start seeing things differently - you might not notice but those close to you will.
That's why it's so important to get your mindset right before coming to a decision.
So you see - it's not just about money is it? The very first thing you need to think about is choosing a business that suits your personality.
Now before we go any further don't be put off by thinking that you have to know a business before going into it.
You can always learn new skills and there are quite a few basic businesses that are not difficult to pick up.
They're good ones to start with.
You can get some experience under your belt and build out from there.
Here's a few to think about: If you're practical you could start a handyman service.
It must be a good business because the concept is being franchised.
So is domestic cleaning and car washing.
Which begs the question do you really need to pay out $15,000 to a franchise company to be taught how to wash a car or clean a house? What about starting a general household maintenance service? You could put together a package.
Gardening, cleaning and ironing and then later introduce an annual property maintenance program.
I've never come across a service like that.
Have you? And don't worry about the recession - there's plenty of people who will happily pay.
Just make sure you choose your target market carefully.
Perhaps you're thinking about working from home and starting an internet business.
They say it's easy.
Let's take a closer look shall we? The thing is starting any business involves work.
It's the only way to make money.
Even successful criminals have to "work" on their plan! So don't be fooled by the "make easy money" internet business peddlers.
Just remember there's a 99.
9% failure rate! And the reason why the failure rate is so high is because the barriers to entry are very low.
In other words you don't need any money to get started.
Well that should tell you something straight away...
But of course that's not the main reason why the failure rate is so high.
It's because internet marketing is a highly complex business that requires a ton of different skills.
It's very difficult and one of the most highly competitive businesses on the planet.
Now I don't have the time to go into this here but you are welcome to download a 4000 word report that I have written on this subject based on my own experience.
It's brutally frank.
The thing to remember when starting a home business is to keep it simple and build it out from there.
Choose a business that is easy to set up and can be started with a low budget.
And above all make sure you choose one where there's no steep learning curve.
Unless of course you want to waste weeks or months ploughing through a 12 set DVD course and still not really "getting it".
That's why a basic service business is the best one to go for if you're just starting out and working from home.
In the next article start a home business part two we'll take a look at some of these service business.
Hopefully there will be a few in there that will suit you and I'll give you some more ideas of how and where to find them.
