A good variety of wine cooler models exist in the market today. Most of them come in different bottle capacities and features. A wine cooler is used to ensure the ideal temperature and moisture for your wine, but what else should you take into consideration before buying the wine fridge? Below are some things that must be taken into account before making such an investment.

Site: There are two main areas where you can consider placing your wine cooler. The living area or in a service area and there are advantages and disadvantages in either location. If put in a living area then some of the factors to take into account is the design and the dimensions of the wine cooler so it fits with the d©cor of your room. It must be quiet, have very little vibrations and be easy on the eyes. A wine cabinet that runs on thermoelectricity will meet these criteria and fit well in a kitchen or dinning area. A wine cooler in a utility area like a garage or basement however need only be effective but because in these areas the temperature bounces up and down you will need a unit that accommodates this with a good compressor.

Bottle Accommodation: This factor is especially important if you are a collector who intends to grow his cellar over the years as opposed to a customer who just needs a display for a party or the occasional guest. Wine cabinets can accommodate from 6 right up to 260 bottles so choose wisely.

Wine Racks: The options available are built-in plastic racks with slide-out shelves made of either wood or chrome plated or flat iron and interchangeable chrome shelving racks. All these racks serve the purpose of keeping your wine bottles in good condition so they last long. However the advantage of the slide-out racks is that they will allow view and attainability of any wine bottle whereas the built-in racks can accommodate more bottles.

Temperature Zone: The temperature at which you keep and preserve your wine is key for a good wine cellar and the dual temperature should fall in the 55 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit range. The dual temperature zone units have two compartments of different temperatures while the single zone unit keeps the entire cabinet at the same temperature. Since white wine is best served chilled below 55F and red wine is served best at 59F or higher if your collection has both red and white wine then you will need a dual zone unit.

Design: Your personal preference will determine if you will select a lone fridge with a bottle capacity of over 250 bottles or a built-in unit that merges in with the d©cor in your kitchen. Some other factors for consideration are reversible door hinges, locks, style of the door eg: wood, stainless steel, tempered glass, or an electronic, manual or one-touch thermostat.
