How to Search for a Minnesota Criminal History
- 1). Go to Minnesota Criminal Offender search site (see resources) and click on the "begin search" at the bottom of the page.
- 2). Click the box at the bottom of the page that reads "I have read and understand the conditions above and agree to comply with them." The page states that if your inquiry is to obtain information regarding an applicantion for employment, housing or credit then you must notify the applicant that a background check using the website is being conducted. Click the"Continue" button.
- 3). Enter the last name, first name and date of birth of the person about whom you are inquiring; and enter the Captcha code and click the "Go" button.
- 4). Press "Print Report" if you want a copy of the report.
- 5). Click on the "Informed Consent Procedure" about halfway down the page if you are seeking both public and private criminal records.
- 6). Follow the instructions on the opening page to obtain a full criminal history, which will require the consent of the individual about whom you are inquiring. Click on the link on the page entitled "Informed Consent Document," which will bring up a sample copy of the form. It may or may not be printable, but it provides all the information you need to get the consent of the individual about whom you inquire.
- 7). Mail the completed consent form with $15 as of Oct. 1, 2010, made out to BCA and mail it with a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Criminal Justice Information Section (see Resources).
- 1). Mail a letter requesting the information on the convict with the first, last and, if available, middle name and the the date of birth. The letter should be addressed to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension
Criminal Justice Information Systems (see Resources). - 2). Enclose a $4 check (as of 2010) payable to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
- 3). Wait two to four weeks for the records to be mailed to you.
