How to Add a Circuit in a Bryant Panel
- 1). Shut off the main breaker in the power panel. It is the largest breaker in the power panel when looking at the current rating of each breaker. Unscrew the screws holding the power panel cover in place. Before removing the panel, use a marker to mark which new slot on the power panel will get the new circuit breaker.
- 2). Use the screwdriver and hammer to remove the knockout corresponding to the circuit slot you chose. Set the panel cover aside and pull the wire for the new circuit up into the power panel. Strip part of the sheath off of the new wire to expose the black, white and bare wires.
- 3). Using the screwdriver, connect the white wire and the bare ground wire to the neutral bar found on the left and right side of the power panel. These bars are usually on the left and right of the circuit breaker column that runs down the middle of the power panel.
- 4). Connect the black wire to the screw terminal on the new circuit breaker. Plug the new circuit breaker into the circuit breaker position that corresponds to the position of the hole you knocked out on the power panel cover. This will ensure that the breaker and the breaker hole in the cover will match up.
- 5). Reinstall the power panel cover. Then turn the main breaker back on to restore power, assuming you have already installed the equipment on the other end of this circuit. If you haven't yet installed the equipment, delay turning the power back on until that equipment until you have done so.
