    Creating the Nameplate

    • 1). Measure the area of the jersey across the back above the players number and between the shoulders. On an adult hockey jersey this will generally be around 12 inches long and 4 inches wide. Cut a swath of fabric to size. This is the base of your nameplate.

    • 2). Create the iron-on letters to spell out the player's last name using iron-on transfer paper, a computer, and an inkjet printer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the package of iron-on transfer paper to create a transfer of your last name. The color of the transferable letters should match the color of the numbers on the hockey jersey.

    • 3). Prepare a flat, stable work area for application. Set the iron to the heat setting specified on the iron-on transfer package.

    • 4). Align the printed iron-on transfer to the center of the swath of fabric.

    • 5). Using the heated iron, apply light, even pressure to the back of the transfer. Be careful not to move the transfer paper during heat application or the letters will smudge.

    • 6). Carefully peel away the paper from the fabric and allow the fabric to cool. You now have a nameplate!

    • 7). Pin the nameplate to the back of the hockey jersey above the number and centered between the shoulders.

    • 8). Load a sewing machine with thread that matches the jersey and nameplate color. Set the machine to a basic or zigzag pattern.

    • 9). Carefully sew around the edge of the nameplate to affix it to the jersey.
