How to Find Someone Who Has Been Deported
- 1). Make a list of entry and deportation information pertinent to the deported person. Start with the person's full name, possible aliases, date of entry into the U.S. and alien registration number (if applicable). Write down information about the original detention such as the date, time and reason for detainment.
- 2). Contact your local Detention and Removal Operations Office and ask to speak with a DRO officer. Click the link in the Resources section and then select the contact information for the field office in the major city listed located closest to where officials detained the deported person. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement DRO maintain records of detained individuals held in detention facilities, in-transit for removal from the United States or already handed over to authorities in another country.
- 3). Speak with a foreign embassy representative if transfer of the person has already occurred and you're uncertain of the whereabouts of the deported person back in the country of origin. Click the "Foreign Embassies in the U.S." Click the link of the website associated with the country in question, locate the contact information and then call the embassy for assistance. If the country of origin doesn't have a website, go to Step 4.
- 4). Ask for assistance from a U.S. embassy or consulate in the country of origin. Assistance can come in several forms such procurement of information about the re-entry into the country of origin such as the location of re-entry or a reference to a foreign-based agency within the country of origin better suited to aiding you with your request for help.
