    • 1). Reach out to family members and friends. Explain that you need help paying your rent. Tell them that you will be able to pay the money back as soon as your finances are stable. Show them your rent bill. Stress the rent due date. Extend your services such as babysitting, washing a car or cleaning as repayment for the help.

    • 2). Apply for vouchers with the local Housing and Urban Development Rent Assistance Program. Contact your local Public Housing Agency to see if you qualify for vouchers. The HUD assistance program covers any rental costs that you can not pay. You are required to pay at least 30 percent of the rent.

    • 3). Go to local charities and community centers such as the Salvation Army, Legal Aid Society, American Red Cross and United Way. Take any documentation relating to employment and your bills. Be patient with the organization. If the organization can not assist you, many times the agency will consult other services to step in or it can refer you to the appropriate place.

    • 4). Speak to your pastor about assistance programs in the community. Reach out to other members of religious-based programs in your community. Write a letter or contact the religious organization by email. Explain your need for rental assistance.

    • 5). Find rent programs associated with The Homeless Prevention and rapid Re-Housing Program. Apply for this program if you are facing eviction in your home or if you are homeless. Assistance is based on need. Visit the Local Homeless Assistance page of the HUD website to find programs in your area.
