Mobile Phones
Not only are they stylish, compact and functional, they also transcend the age gap.
Everyone from your gran to your kid sister owns one.
They come in all shapes, colours and sizes, they hold more memory that a computer did not all that long ago.
They have better software programs that those old PCs had too.
You can do just about anything with a phone these days.
So much so, that calling them a 'phone' is doing them a major injustice.
Modern phones come fully installed with diaries, calculators, notepads, address books, to-do lists and instant messaging.
A veritable office in a shell.
Need to send an email? use your phone.
Need connection to the Internet? your phone will do it for you.
You can take pictures that would put a digital camera to shame.
You can even record movies, or record meetings and conversations.
There is no longer any need to wait until you get back from holiday to share your snaps, just send your family and friends multimedia messages.
News headlines and messages from your favourite sports team can be sent to your phone, you can get a message sent when your football team scores a goal, even if they are playing on the other side of the world.
We really are in the era of global communications.
The mobile phone is also a fully fledged entertainment device, with video player, jukebox, radio and even television.
Who needs a bulky hi fi system when your mp3 playing phone can deliver such high quality sound? There is an added bonus too, you don't have to be sat in your lounge to listen to it.
Add a memory card and you can carry your whole record collection around with you, in your pocket or purse.
With new features being added all the time it's easy to see why people would sooner give up just about anything but their phone.
Oh yeah, you can speak to people on it too.
