Can Long Distance Relationships Work?

The answer is yes, certainly but there needs to be clear plans in place for eventually being together and within a reasonable time frame too.
It's only when the future is blurred and unclear without anything definite being planned that one or both parties will start to feel depressed and insecure about the relationship.
The plans you while in a long distance relationship should be realistic, honest and 100% agreed upon by both of you, after all, it's likely that neither one of you will want to continue in a relationship where Skype, MSN, telephone calls and email are your only sources of contact over a long period.
You must have concrete plans to be together, a time frame to achieve it in and those plans must be realistic to achieve.
That's very important physiologically and will 'keep hope alive' in the relationship.
Hope is an amazingly powerful thing and a tremendous motivator, it's only when you lose hope that negativity can creep in and start to cause you problems and doubts.
Another thing about long distance relationships is the way in which you can get to know your partner, it's different from seeing each other on regular dates.
With distance you are forced to talk and communicate more, you'll find out a lot more about each other and generally it's great preparation for when you will be together.
Having said that there really is nothing like physically being with someone to really know them 'in the real world'.
I believe that you can only go so far with emails and online chat before there's not much left to learn.
Most of our communication is non verbal and subconsciously you are interpreting so many things about your partner simply by being in their presence, noticing their body language and facial expression.
In the end most people would say go for a long distance relationship if you feel the connection is there.
There's nothing worse in life than regret so go for it and see what happens.
At the very least you can never say you didn't try.
