Centerpieces to Make With Lights
- One very popular centerpiece is a bowl of water with soft, flickering candles floating in it. Here, the effect can be recreated using a floating waterproof LED votive, an LED votive in a floating lantern, or a floating water lily with an LED placed in the center. LED votives have an advantage over candles in that they produce illumination longer than a traditional candle and run off of a battery. They also produce a realistic looking flicker, so they are often indistinguishable from actual candles.
- Wrap a flower vase with crystal garland. Fill the vase with shredded filler and LED string lights. Unlike traditional battery-operated decorative string lights, LED lights will remain cool to the touch. Although both types of lights run off of batteries, LED string lights are more energy efficient and will stay on longer. Ensure that the lights are spread out throughout the vase. Place silk flowers in the vase, and arrange a few of the LED lights so that they glow among the flowers. Place the centerpiece on a mirrored tile in the center of the table.
- One way to light an ice sculpture centerpiece dramatically is to light it from below. LED light disks are a good way to do this. A light disk is flat so that flower vases, ice sculptures or clear polymer cubes may be set on it. The light reflects up through the clear matter for a dramatic effect. An ice sculpture may be easily made using a molds available from party supply and wedding stores.
