1.
Candles
Just imagine the winter sun setting as the bride draws near to the church door.
As the last rays of sun throw the colors of the stained glass west window onto the ceiling, she walks into a church entirely lit with lanterns and candles.
What could be more breathtakingly romantic? 2.
Winter Flowers
The scent of hyacinths throughout the church spreads the most wonderful winter fragrance.
What better colors could there be for your magical wedding than the whites and ivories of these gorgeous plants - a wonderful complement to the bride and her bridal party.
3.
Carols
We all love Christmas carols and everyone knows how to sing them.
What could be more exciting than the bride walking down the aisle to a roaring chorus of Hark the Herald Angels Sing? 4.
Christmas Trees
Decorate the church and reception venue with Christmas trees, glittering lights and candles throughout.
Keep it simple.
Whites, silvers, golds and deep reds will be magical.
5.
Fabrics / Textures
When you think of wedding fabrics, brides, bridesmaids and page boys, you usually think of light flowery colors and fabrics.
Having a winter wedding will enable you to think of velvets and heavier, sumptuous and more luxurious fabrics.
How about a rich velvet gown over the top of a heavy silk ivory or zibeline wedding dress? 6.
Frost / Snow
I have a memory of a bride and groom straight out of a cathedral on Fifth Avenue in New York.
The light was fading, the traffic was gridlocked and snow was falling on the bride and groom as they crossed the street on foot to the reception.
Everyone hooted and cheered.
It may have been New York, but it was pure Hollywood and pure Romance.
7.
Log Fires
The frost and snow will have made everyone cold.
Is there a better way than to arrive at a wedding reception with the traditional warmth and smell of roaring log fires? There will be piles of split logs and pine cones and the scent of cinnamon and dried oranges throughout.
8.
Colours
White weddings are always best, but why not white snowdrops, white frost, and white snow.
It's the winter fairy tale - Winter Wonderland.
9.
Hats
When we think about weddings, we all think about hats.
Winter isn't a time of big straw hats or floppy hats, but it is a time to think about richer fabrics such as velvets.
It's also an exciting time to think about feather headpieces and fascinators, perhaps in gold, silver, red or ivory.
10.
Winter Wonderland
Sometimes we want a theme for a wedding, but what better theme than a winter fairy tale? Forget about a summer wedding.
It might rain! We know how to cope with the winter weather.
Make the most of it.
I did.
