Tax Manager Duties
- Every team needs good leadership, no matter what field it may practice in. In the world of tax preparation, a well-managed team may be the difference between a successful and fruitful relationship with clients or having to face a harsh IRS audit with them. A tax manager not only offers a tax team leadership but knowledge and experience that benefits the clients as well as the team that serves them.
- The primary part of a tax manager's job is the preparation of tax returns. He prepares both federal and state income taxes for individuals, businesses, real estate, benefit funds and exempt organizations such as churches.
- The tax manager is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with clients and demonstrating a knowledge not only of the clients themselves but also their needs.
- Tax managers also prepare a large number of documents for their company or department. These range from written correspondence and guidance to internal memoranda and private letter rulings. They also prepare documents to be submitted to the IRS or U.S. Treasury Department.
- Tax managers are in charge of training all of their subordinate staff, as well as reviewing their job performance. The evaluations can be used to improve any areas lacking in a staff member's performance.
- The tax manager must manage many clients and their cases, as well as overseeing departmental or team budgets, and the production goals of their department or team.
