How to Donate a Car to Charity With No Title
- 1). Locate a charity in your area that accepts car donations (some are nationwide). Some of the bigger organizations are listed below, in resources, but this is not an exhaustive list. Use a search engine to find additional charities, if desired.
- 2). Don't be shy about asking questions. Make sure that the charity is, indeed, an eligible, 501(c)3 IRS registered charity allows you to write off the donation as a tax deduction.
- 3). Contact your state's Motor Vehicle Department try to obtain a duplicate title.
- 4). If you still can't locate the title, talk to the charity directly. Many charities are still able to accept the donation without a title, as long as your state's Motor Vehicle Department confirms that there is no outstanding lien on your car. In some cases, they may accept a notorized signature instead of the title.
- 5). Make pick-up arrangements directly with the charity. Find out if you need to be present for the pick-up, if they need you to sign any documentation, and if they will give you a receipt immediately or by mail.
