Removing Light Scratches

• 1). Clean the walnut veneer with a mixture of warm water and a wood-cleaning product. Mix according to the manufacturer's directions.
  
  
• 2). Dry with a clean dry cloth.
  
  
• 3). Rub the meat of a walnut over the scratch. This will help hide small scratches. The oil from the walnut helps darken the scratched area, making the scratches invisible.
  
  
• 4). Apply a hard paste wax made for treating wood with a 0000 steel wool pad. Don't rub hard and go in the direction of the wood grain.
  
  
• 5). Buff the surface with a soft cloth.
  
  

Covering Deep Scratches

• 1). Clean the wood as directed in Step 1.
  
  
• 2). Find a furniture-patching wax stick that matches the color of the walnut veneer.
  
  
• 3). Fill the scratch in using the furniture-patching stick. Apply enough pressure on the stick to fill in the scratch with wax, leveling it with the surface.
  
  
• 4). Draw the edge of a plastic card over the filled scratch to remove excess wax. Wait until the wax dries. The drying time varies depending on the brand of wax you purchased, so be sure to follow manufacturer's directions.
  
  
• 5). Buff with a soft cloth.
