    • 1). Put a bucket underneath the radiator and below the drain plug of the Geo Tracker. The drain plug on the Geo Tracker is on the bottom rear of the radiator.

    • 2). Open the drain plug to allow the radiator coolant to flow into the bucket. Once draining completes, pour the coolant into a sealable container for proper disposal. You can replace the tank without draining the radiator, but it makes the task much messier and the process more difficult.

    • 3). Remove the nuts that hold the coolant recovery tank in place with a socket wrench. You may need to use a socket extension on some models of the Geo Tracker, because one or more of the nuts may be difficult to access. The coolant recovery tank is on the passenger's side of the radiator.

    • 4). Use a pair of hose clamp pliers to detach the coolant hoses from the recovery tank. You can use regular pliers, but the specialized hose clamp pliers make the removal much simpler. Also, be sure to cover the hoses with clean rags after removal to keep them free of debris.

    • 5). Take out the old coolant recovery tank and replace it with the new one. The new tank should slide right over the bolts. Then, put the nuts on the bolts and use the socket wrench to tighten the nuts, securing the tank to the Geo Tracker.

    • 6). Reconnect the coolant hoses to the recovery tank. Next, secure the hoses into place with the hose clamp pliers. Verify that the connection to the tank is secure before you continue.

    • 7). Close the drain plug, fill the radiator with coolant and switch on the engine of the Geo Tracker. Allow the Tracker to run like this for about 15 minutes. Next, check for any coolant leaks. If none exist, close the hood and clean up any mess you made.
