How to Wire a Nippondenso Alternator
- 1). Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands before wiring your Nippondenso alternator. Open the hood of your car and secure it.
- 2). Disconnect the negative battery cable from the car battery using a wrench. The cable is black and the battery terminal is labeled "Neg." Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery using a wrench. The cable is red and the battery terminal is labeled "Pos." Move the cables safely away from the battery.
- 3). Look on the back of the Denso alternator to locate the terminals. There are usually three terminals labeled "Bat" or "B", "Gnd" or "Neg" and Ign." The first connects to the battery and starter motor, the second connects to a metal part of the car and the third connects to the ignition and dashboard warning light system.
- 4). Find the three cables nearby the Nippondenso alternator. One is a thick red cable and connects to the terminal labeled "Bat" or "B", another is a black cable and connects to the terminal labeled "Gnd" or "Neg" while the third is a thin cable and varies in color, depending on the wiring of your car. It's usually blue, green or brown and has a push-in plastic plug on the end.
- 5). Push the plug on the end of the thin colored wire into the socket marked "Ign." You hear it click into place when you push it in. Gently pull on the plug to ensure it's fastened securely.
- 6). Remove the nut from the terminal marked "Bat" or "B" using a suitably-sized wrench. Put the metal ring on the end of the red cable over the terminal and then screw on the nut using your fingers. Tighten the nut using a wrench.
- 7). Undo the screw from the terminal labeled "Gnd" or "Neg" using a flat-head screwdriver. Place the metal ring on the end of the black cable over the screw thread then replace the screw into the threaded hole of the terminal and tighten using the screwdriver.
- 8). Reconnect the red battery cable onto the positive battery terminal using a wrench. Reconnect the black battery cable onto the negative battery terminal.
- 9). Close the hood of your car. Start your car and check that the ignition warning light turns off. If it does your alternator is operating correctly. If the light stays on then turn off the engine and recheck the wiring connections.
