Visit North Georgia Wineries

The rolling foothills and mountains of north Georgia are home to a number of the state's best wineries. A drive through this area makes a pleasant day trip out of Atlanta. Most of the wineries offer tastings and tours, and they are eager to introduce visitors to their selections.

Several wineries are located an hour north of Atlanta in the Dahlonega area. The oldest winery in the Dahlonega area is Three Sisters Vineyards. The winery is open all year except the month of January. Their selections include Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. They also offer port and dessert wines. The tasting room is open Thursday-Saturday from 11am-5pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. Three Sisters Vineyards is located at 439 Vineyard Way, off Hwy. 19.

Another popular winery in the Dahlonega area is Wolf Mountain Vineyards and Winery. Their award winning wines include dry white wines, red wines, semi-sweet and port wines, and sparkling wines. Tastings are offered Thursday-Sunday from noon -5pm. Estate wine tastings are $10 per person and Reserve wine tastings are $20 per person. A winemaker's tour and tasting is available for $30 per person on weekends at 2pm. The Vineyard Caf© offers gourmet food and Sunday brunch. Reservations are required for the Caf©. Wolf Mountain is located five miles north of Dahlonega at 180 Wolf Mountain Trail.

Habersham Winery is one of several wineries near the Alpine town of Helen, Georgia. It is located at 7025 South Main Street. Habersham is one of Georgia's oldest wineries, operating since 1983. Complimentary tours and tastings are offered. Habersham Winery produces Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Viognier, and Sangiovese wines that have won many awards over the years. The winery is open daily from 10am-6pm on Monday-Saturday and from 12:30pm-6pm on Sunday.

Tiger Mountain Vineyards is located up in the northeast corner of Georgia near the town of Clayton. They have been producing fine, award winning wines for over a decade. Their offerings include Petit Manseng, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Viognier. From May through November the winery is open daily. Sunday through Friday hours are 1-5pm and Saturday hours are 11am-6pm. From December through April Tiger Mountain Vineyards is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They are located at 2592 Old Highway 441 in Tiger, Georgia.
Chateau ‰lan Winery, established in 1984, is located a short drive north of Atlanta on I-85, near Braselton. Winery tours and tastings are offered daily. Chateau ‰lan produces Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet, port, and Muscadine wines.

Visitors may enjoy wines with lunch or dinner in Caf© ‰lan, a Mediterranean style bistro, or in LeClos, the resort's elegant French restaurant.

Visitors to these wineries will be able to enjoy a selection of fine wines as well as some of north Georgia's most spectacular mountain scenery. Choose one or two wineries for a day outing, or select several and make a weekend of it.
