How to Hook Up a Tow Bar to a Chevy Camaro
- 1). Jack up the front of the Camaro high enough to insert two jack stands under the frame rail, one on each side, and then lower the weight of the Camaro down onto the jack stands. Remove the floor jack. Place a utility light under the front of the Camaro so that each end of the frame rails can be seen nearest to the front bumper.
- 2). Measure one frame rail back from the bumper to an available space on the frame to mount a tow bar bracket. Make a mark with a pencil or marker. Measure out the same distance on the other frame rail and make a mark.
- 3). Confirm that the right bracket is going to be secured to the frame on the passenger side of the Camaro and the left bracket is going to be fastened to the frame on the driver's side before drilling any holes. Then, place a tow bar bracket on the frame and transfer the pattern of holes in the bracket onto the frame. Drill the holes into the frame using an electric drill and the proper size drill bit. Move to the other frame rail and repeat the process.
- 4). Fasten the tow bar mounting brackets directly to the Camaro's frame. Use a ratcheting wrench and an open-end wrench to tighten the bracket's nuts and bolts together. Secure them to the frame using 60 foot-lbs. of torque. Check that the alignment of both brackets is similar.
- 5). Measure the distance back from the bumper to each hole the Camaro mounting arms will be secured to. The difference should not be more than 2 inches from the hole closest to the bumper to the hole farthest from the bumper to tow a Camaro safely down the road using a tow bar.
- 6). Bolt tow bar extensions to each of the frame mounting brackets. Align the frame end of an extension over the holes in the frame mounting brackets and fasten it securely using two nuts, bolts and washers to hold it securely in place. Repeat the process on the other side of the car, making sure that the left-side extension goes on the driver's side of the car and the right-side extension is bolted securely to the passenger side of the car.
- 7). Connect the Roadmaster tow bar to the Chevy Camaro tow bar extensions using Roadmaster's factory pin and yoke fasteners. Back the RV up to the Camaro with the tow bar attached and hook the tow bar up to the hitch of the towing vehicle (in this case an RV). Adjust the height of the hitch if possible to closely match the height of the Roadmaster tow bar extending out level from the front of the Camaro. The Camaro is ready to be towed safely behind any tow vehicle that matches the height of the tow bar connected to the car.
