    National Association of Independent Schools

    • The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) represents nearly 1,400 independent schools and associations in the United States and throughout the world. The organization serves as a national voice for independent schools. Diversity and equity of access to independent schools as a choice is stressed in the association's mission and core values. The organization provides members with conferences, events and professional development programs. The association is governed by a board of trustees who are elected by members serving as representatives for the independent schools.

    National Catholic Education Association

    • The National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) is the largest private education association in the world, representing more than 7.6 million students and more than 200,000 Catholic school educators. The association began in 1904, uniting three organizations as the Catholic Education Association. In 1927, the organization added "national" to its name and title. NCEA is structured as a voluntary association of institutions and educators, with membership "departments" that include Chief Administrators of Catholic Education (CACE), elementary schools, secondary schools, religious education, seminary and the boards and councils of Catholic education.

    Association of Christian Schools International

    • In 1978, four leading Christian school associations merged to form the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI). In the following years, many other associations came under the ASCI wing from every region in the United States. Today, ASCI has nearly 6,000 member schools, serving more than 1.4 million students in more than 100 countries. The association develops programs and services to foster a Christian education at every grade level, from preschool to high school and college. ACSI is structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Member schools elect ASCI's 36-member executive board.

    National Association of Temple Educators

    • The National Association of Temple Educators (NATE) is an association of Reform Jewish educators. Members are full- and part-time Jewish educators, including administrators, rabbis, cantors, supervisors, day school directors, family educators and Jewish authors and publishers. The association's mission is to strengthen, inspire and support educators in their efforts to provide students with a Reform Jewish religious education. Educators are provided with support services and resources ranging from certification, educational and professional development and continuing education programs to textbooks, curriculum development resources, workshops and job placement services.

    American Montessori Society

    • The American Montessori Society (AMS) was formed in 1960 by the Association Montessori Internationale to meet the needs of educators, parents and students in the United States. AMS is a nonprofit, nonsectarian association, with active teacher education programs and parent study groups. AMS is dedicated to advancing and supporting the Montessori teaching approach, developed by French educator Dr. Maria Montessori. In 1960, the international organization appointed Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambush, an educator from Greenwich, Connecticut, to direct the society in the United States and develop Montessori teaching methods within an American context. Today, AMS has more than 11,000 members and is the largest Montessori organization in the world.
