- The base model Challenger SE came equipped with a 3.5-liter 24-valve SOHC V6 with a 3.78-inch bore, 3.19-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10 to 1. The 3.5-liter V6 produced 250 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 250 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,800 rpm. This engine's redline was 6,800 rpm.
- The R/T model came equipped with a 5.7-liter 16-valve HEMI V8 engine with a 3.92-inch bore, 3.58-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10.5 to 1. When fitted to an automatic transmission this power plant generated 370 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 398 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,200 rpm. The 5.7-liter engine mated to a manual gearbox produced 375 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 404 ft.-lbs of torque at 4,200 rpm.
- The top of the line Challenger engine was the 6.1-liter 16-valve HEMI V8 with a 4.06-inch bore, 3.58-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10.3 to 1. This power plant generated 425 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 420 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,800 rpm. The 6.1-liter HEMI's redline was 6,400 rpm.
