- 1). Turn off the E39's engine and open the hood. Put on the gloves.
- 2). Remove the two access caps at the rear of the headlamp assembly. The smaller cap houses the high-beam bulb and the larger cap houses the low-beam bulb.
- 3). Disconnect the wiring harness from each bulb by removing the clip and pulling it off the bulb.
- 4). Pull the bulb holder out of the assembly by rotating it counterclockwise. Pull the bulb out of the holder. Replace if necessary.
- 5). Place the bulb back into the bulb holder and rotate the bulb holder clockwise to secure it to the assembly. Reattach the wiring harness and reinstall the access caps. Close the hood.
