Whenever the patient relives the traumatic experience through any discussion, imagination, pictures, or any other means, the patient undergoes anxiety attacks.

Some causes are biological while others are psychological.
Anxiety can be inherited.
GABA, an important neurotransmitter is found low in anxiety patients so it is believed that it might be a cause.
People who are alcoholics or benzodiazepine dependents are more prone to have this problem.
In most of the cases stress is responsible for causing this problem.
It can also be the result of many physical disorders that people experience especially when the diseases and disorders create dependency.

Anxiolytics like Prozac, Paxil etc are used to treat anxiety.
