    Vintage

    • Decorating a nursery with a vintage theme can be charming. Frame antique baby clothes in shadowboxes to hang on the wall, which works well for either boys or girls. Arrange vintage toys on shelving. These can be dolls and teddy bears for girls or tin trucks for boy. Frame antique illustrations from old worn books to display. Paint the dresser white, and lightly sand the edges to achieve a vintage look. A patchwork quilt in soft colors would work well for the bedding. Chalk-ware figures of children are an interesting accent for the dresser. Use soft colors for the walls and breezy light curtains for the windows.

    Wild West

    • This theme can be used for little cowgirls or cowboys. Bandannas can be sewn into an interesting patchwork quilt and pillows and can also be used for a valance. Frame a western movie poster to display with horseshoes and stirrups as a grouping on the wall. A lamp made from a child's cowboy or cowgirl boot would make a good accessory for the dresser. Include a rocking horse with a saddle in the corner.

    Deep Blue Sea

    • The sea offers an ideal theme for a mural. Start with pale blue walls, and create colorful sea creatures scattered on the walls, which might include an octopus, whale, ocean fish, jelly fish or clams. Coloring books can provide simple patterns. Paint fish on the inside of the lampshade. Use shell drawer pulls on the dresser, which can be decorated with images of shells and coral. Use beach pails for storing small items such as pacifiers and small toys. Hang a mobile featuring fish over the crib for the baby to enjoy.

    The Great Outdoors

    • Bring some of the outdoors into the baby's nursery. Paint the walls either a pale green or a soft sky blue. Paint a large tree on one wall. Extend the branches to the edges of the walls, and add some simple green leaves. Add a nest with baby birds perched beside it. Design colorful birds flying across the four walls. Place plush toy birds on a shelf beside a pair of binoculars and children's books about birds. Coordinate the bedding with bird-themed fabric, and hang a bird mobile over the bed.
