How to Lift Tires
- 1). Inspect the inside and outside of the tire for protruding sharp objects--wear gloves while you do this. Look inside the tire, while keeping a safe distance, for wasps, snakes or spiders. Remove or kill these pests if necessary.
- 2). Drain the tire of all liquid by lifting the tire so that it stands vertically on the ground and then roll it in a circular direction. Tilt the tire inward to allow the liquid to pour over the sidewalls. Flip the tire end over end broadside to splash out all remaining water.
- 3). Bend your knees while keeping your back as straight as possible and grip the tire on both sides of the tread so that your fingers are curling around the lip of the sidewall. Lift with your knees keeping and slowly lift the tire off the ground. Lift with your arms if necessary, but keep the tread of the tire on your thighs.
- 1). Slide the forklift's forks or the loaders bucket underneath the edge of the tire and raise the tire off the ground so that it stands up on its tread. Inspect the tire for pests and sharp objects.
- 2). Inspect the tire for pests and sharp objects. Tip the tire over with the forks or bucket to slosh out all liquids.
- 3). Scoop up the tire with the bucket and lift it off the ground, or tip the tire back up on its tread and run the forks of the forklift through the center and lift it up off the ground. If the forklift has a tilt, engage the tilt so the tire doesn't slide forward off the forks.
