How to Install a Dual Ground Rod

    • 1). Install the first rod near the electrical panel. Push in by hand the grounding rod as far as you can. Use the electric jack hammer and the driver bit to hammer it down until there is only 6 inches of rod above ground.

    • 2). Measure the distance from your first grounding rod to where you want to place the second one, usually near a water supply pipe. Measure to ensure it's at least 6 feet from the first rod.

    • 3). Install the second grounding rod, near the water supply pipe. Push in by hand the grounding rod as far as you can. Place the driver bit on the top of the rod and hammer it in with the electric jack hammer until you have only 6 inches of rod above ground.

    • 4). Connect the ground wires to the ground conductor on the grounding rods, then secure the wire with the screwdriver. (The ground conductor is a clamp on the end of the grounding rod with a screw.)
