How to Change the String on a Ryobi Weed Trimmer
- 1). Remove the spool retainer by turning it either clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the model of the weed trimmer.
- 2). Remove the spool from the string head. You will notice a spring on the spool. Do not remove the spring from the spool.
- 3). Cut two lengths of trimmer string 9 feet long with the knife. Ensure that the ends of the string are cut clean to allow them to be inserted into the spool easily.
- 1). Hold the spool with the spring facing up and insert the first string into the anchor hole in the upper area of the spool.
- 2). Wind this string counterclockwise around the upper area of the spool until about 6 inches remain.
- 3). Press the string into one of the string retention slots in the upper spool flange. This will hold the first string in place, allowing you to wind the second string.
- 4). Insert the second string into the anchor hole in the lower area of the spool.
- 5). Wind this string counterclockwise around the lower area of the spool until about 6 inches remain. Be sure not to over fill the spool.
- 6). Press the string into the other string retention slot in the upper spool flange.
- 1). Insert the ends of the two strings through the guide holes in the string head and pull them through to around 5 inches.
- 2). Position the spring over the string head shaft and press the spool down onto the shaft.
- 3). When the spool is in place, pull the strings sharply to release them from the retention slots.
- 4). Rotate the spool until it no longer turns.
- 5). Replace the spool retainer, turning accordingly to tighten it to the shaft.
- 6). Pull the strings once more to align the spool into the cutting position.
- 7). Pull the strings while pushing the spool retainer down to advance string manually, if necessary.
