Shrug Machine Exercise
- Most gyms have shrug machines or something similar. You also can use Smith machine for shrugs. These machines help assist in executing the lift with proper form.
When first using a shrug machine, perform the lift with a light weight. Never sacrifice form for weight; using more weight than you can properly lift could lead to injury. - Proper technique includes a comfortable grip on the handles of the shrug machine. Grab the handles and let them hang to your sides at arm's length. One correct repetition will be to raise your shoulders as high as you can, holding at the top for a count, and then lowering back down to the starting position. When raising your shoulders, act as if you are trying to touch your ears with them. Avoid bending your arms when raising your shoulders. Keeping your arms as straight as possible allows for maximum gains.
